VFW meeting

LEWISTON – The Longley-Dionne Post 9150, VFW, will meet at noon Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Lewiston Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon Rd. All officers and members are encouraged to attend. A light lasagna lunch will be served. Spouses are invited.

Legion session

LISBON FALLS – Nelson-Conley Post 66, American Legion, will meet at the Slovak Meeting Room, Avery Street, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1. All members, prospective members and active-duty personnel are invited.

Seniors lunch

AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Hasty Community Center. The board meeting will be at 10. Lunch will be spaghetti, and members are reminded to bring their utensils. Tickets will be on sale for the Feb. 15 Valentine party.

Fuel fund dinner

LEWISTON – A fund-raising dinner of lasagna, salad, dessert and drink will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the Multi-Purpose Center, Birch Street.

Proceeds will be used to supplement home heating assistance funds for seniors and others needing home heating assistance. Cost is $5 a person. There will be 50/50, prizes, entertainment, food and fun for the whole family.

Private donations raised for the charitable fund will be tax-deductible. A tax-deductible donation may be made to: Keep ME Warm Charitable Fuel Fund at Keep ME Warm Fund, 510 Cumberland Ave, Portland, ME 04101. Bates Mill LLC has offered $5,000 in matching funds to the effort. Businesses making contributions to the fuel fund will me matched by Bates Mill.

Skate rescheduled

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Community Skating Party has been rescheduled to Friday, Feb. 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. due to the unseasonably warm weather. Call the Lisbon Recreation Dept. at 353-2289, ext. 117, for details.

Library classes

AUBURN – “Hot Topic Databases” will be offered from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Auburn Public Library. Parents can bring their middle school/high school student and learn how to access the text of the 2005 Encyclopedia Brittanica Online. Registration is necessary.

“Heritage Quest Online” will be presented from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16. After a tour of the library’s genealogy resources, participants will be given a demonstration of Heritage Quest, a database of more than 250,000 full-text books and complete U.S. Census.
