JAY – The municipal portion of the budget is proposed at $5.83 million for 2006-07, 3 percent more than this fiscal year. The increase is lower than the state-mandated tax cap for the town of 4.83 percent.

Selectmen cut a total of $177,154 from the initial proposal.

The $5.83 million municipal proposal is expected to be offset by $2.14 million in revenues with the remaining $3.69 million to be raised by taxation.

Both the selectmen and the Budget Committee recommend approval of all town government articles.

The school budget is still under review.

The proposed municipal package includes $25,000 to do design and engineer work to lay out a six-lot industrial park behind the Jay Plaza, located on town land in a state authorized Pine Tree Zone to entice economic development to the area.

The town and school budgets will have a public hearing at 6 p.m. Monday, March 13, at Jay Middle School cafeteria.

Voters will decide on the budgets at a referendum Monday, April 24, at the Community Building.
