WOODSTOCK – Following an executive session, selectmen voted unanimously Tuesday to extend Town Manager Vern Maxfield’s contract for another year.

Selectman Chairman Leon Poland said making the decision wasn’t difficult because the board feels Maxfield has always done and is doing a fine job for the town.

“The town has no debt, as everything is paid for, and it also has some savings,” he said. “You can’t ask much more from your town manager than that.”

Maxfield said the new contract extension will take him through his 18th year in Woodstock.

“I signed my first contract on August 1st, 1988,” he said

Asked what had led to such a long tenure, compared to the state average of five years, he said, “I like my job, and I feel the town and I have always had a good relationship.”

He also noted that Woodstock is one of four towns in the area, along with Harrison, Norway and Poland, which have had town managers for about the same length of service.
