Several small towns in northern Oxford County are gearing up for annual March town meetings by compiling warrants and appealing for candidates for elective offices.
In Andover, Selectman David Percival resigned recently, leaving two years on his three-year term. Prior to his resignation, veteran Selectman Trudy Akers chose not to seek a third term, leaving Hope Peterson as the only experienced person on the board.
Those who wish to run for the remaining two years of Percival’s term may pick up nomination papers at the town office and return them with the signatures of a minimum of 25 registered voters by Feb. 2.
Peterson said Thursday that Recreation Committee Chairwoman Pamela Pace has returned papers for the position.
Those who have taken out papers for Akers’ position are Jeff Rainey and former Selectman Laura Hutchins.
The town meeting takes place March 18, and elections March 21. Both events are held at the Andover town hall.
In Roxbury, offices to be filled are a selectmen, SAD 43 director, tax collector/treasurer and town clerk, the dual positions currently held by Tina Howard. She said Thursday that she plans to run for a second, one-year term.
Selectman Mark Touchette has not yet indicated whether he plans to run for a full, three-year term, said Howard. Touchette, a former SAD 43 board member, took over as selectman when Steve Aldrich resigned a few months ago. Touchette had also served as a selectman prior to serving on the SAD 43 board.
No one has yet taken out nomination papers for a seat on the SAD 43 board. Those interested in running for any of these positions may pick up papers at the town office, then gather the signatures of a minimum of 10 registered voters in the town. The papers must be returned to the town office by Feb. 16.
The annual town meeting and election is set for 6:30 p.m. March 6 at Mountain Valley Middle School in Mexico.
Byron First Selectman Steve Duguay is expected to seek an additional three-year term when residents gather at 6:30 p.m. March 13 at the Coos Canyon Schoolhouse for the annual town meeting. All nominations and elections of municipal officers are made from the floor.
Melissa Plourde, tax collector/treasurer, and Town Clerk Rosie White also plan to run for additional one-year terms.
