SKOWHEGAN – A free workshop for farmers, “Extending the Harvest,” will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the Skowhegan Community Center. The free session will focus on on-farm and centralized storage systems for potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic and beets.

Participants will learn about innovations for storage crop production. A panel of experienced Maine farmers will speak about low-cost storage methods that can extend the harvest season.

Call 696-8044 or e-mail maaa@gwi.net to register.

Presenters will be Steve Belyea, Jim Cook, Jay Robinson and Ross Adams. The session is co-sponsored by Western Mountains Alliance and the Maine Alternative Agriculture Association, as part of a campaign to help western Maine farmers meet the growing demand for locally produced foods.
