SALEM, N.H. (AP) – Her name hasn’t been released, but strangers who helped deliver a baby girl at a restaurant Friday afternoon offered an obvious suggestion: Ruby.
A waitress called 911 just before 1 p.m. to report a young woman in labor in the bathroom of Ruby Tuesday’s at the Rockingham Mall.
With coaching from a dispatcher over the phone, two mall security officers helped deliver the baby, using a shoe lace to cut the umbilical cord.
“I’m going to school for nursing. … I just did what felt right,” security officer Holly Hastings told WMUR-TV.
The 19-year-old mother told emergency workers that she didn’t know she was pregnant.
She and her new daughter were taken to a hospital, where they both were doing well, mall officials said.
