LAKE PLACID, NY – The Bates College alpine and Nordic ski teams placed fifth out of 13 teams at the St. Lawrence University Winter Carnival.

The Bates men’s Nordic team was fourth out of 13 squads in Friday’s 10k Classis race, powered by a trio of skiers who finished 10th, 11th, and 12th. First-year Sylvan Ellsfson was 10th in 26:45, followed by senior Seth Hubbard and sophomore Matt Dunlap.

The Bates women’s Nordic squad was fifth in their 5k Classic race, led by junior Kaitlyn McElroy, who finished 11th overall in 18:19. Also in the top 20 was freshman Haleigh Armstrong at 17th in 18:36.
