Maine lobstermen trapped over one million pounds more lobsters last year than in 1954, and got an average 1.3 cents a pound more for their catch, Sea and Shore Fisheries Commr. Stanley R. Tupper said today.

This indicates the industry is healthy, Tupper said.

“Not only was production up but prices were up also, which is something of an economic novelty,” he said.

Promotion and advertising programs must be continued and expanded during the peak production months of summer and fall, Tupper added.

The 1955 total catch was over 22,700,000 pounds and the average price paid fishermen was 38.6 cents a pound.
