BOSTON – Rashard Turner and Chris Bruff each scored 12 points as Maine snapped Boston University’s three-game winning streak with a 53-51 win on Sunday.

The Terriers’ Corey Hassan hit a halfcourt shot that would have won the game, but the officials disallowed the basket after reviewing video and ruling that the ball did not leave his hands until after the final buzzer.

Jon Sheets and Olli Ahvenniemi hit free throws to provide the winning margin. Ahvenniemi hit four free throws in the final 1:23 and finished with eight points and 12 rebounds.

Boston University (8-12, 5-4 America East) went on a 13-2 run to end the first half to take a 28-20 halftime lead.

Maine (9-11, 4-5) scored the first eight points of the second half to tie it on Turner’s jumper with 14:00 remaining, as the Terriers went scoreless for the first 6:13 of the half.

Kevin Gardner led the Terriers with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Tony Gaffney and Shaun Wynn added 11 apiece.

Castleton St. 90, UMF 73

CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton State opened the second half with a 13-0 run to erase a three-point halftime deficit and run away to a 90-73 vicotry over Maine-Farmington.

The lead remained in double digits for the final 12:34.

Travis Carrier scored a game-high 24 points. He also had eight rebounds and three blocks. Sean Fry added 16 points, while Travis Magnusson and Isaac Hutchinson had 10 each.Rich Reilly, Brian Bradley and Jeremy Jorgenson all scored at least 20 points for the winners.

BU 80, Maine 61

BOSTON – Boston University’s perimeter shooting nullified Maine’s 32 trips to the foul line in the Terriers’ easy 80-61 victory.

BU (12-6) committed 27 fouls, which gave Maine 22 more free-throws attempts than the Terriers. The Black Bears converted on 81 percent of their attempts, including 20 of 23 in the second half.

But BU drained 11-of-20 3-pointers, compared to Maine’s 1 of 9.

Bracey Barker led Maine with 26 points and eight rebounds. Barker sank all 10 foul shots, but missed all six attampts from beyond the 3-point arc.

UMF 68, Castleton St. 47

CASTLETON, Vt. – Brandi Rideout scored 13 points to help Maine-Farmington win its eighth consecutive game with a 68-47 victory over Castleton State.

Samantha Wiley chipped in with 11 points, while Melissa Sawyer had 10 rebounds.

Husson 65, Elms 57

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Annie McIntosh scored 23 points and added five blocks and eight rebounds to lead Husson to a 65-57 win over Elms College.
