HINSDALE, N.H. (AP) – Police don’t know why a man ran from a police officer during the weekend and jumped into the freezing Connecticut River. He hasn’t been seen since, and officials believe he drowned.
Police Chief Wayne Gallagher says an officer was questioning the man after residents reported someone was going door-to-door ringing doorbells. The man, whose name wasn’t released, told the officer he was campaigning for president.
While the officer was checking the man’s identification, he ran toward the river, jumped in and went under.
Gallagher says the man’s ID showed he might have lived in Canada, but that he told the officer he lived in Brattleboro.
