MEREDITH, N.H. (AP) – One of the state’s biggest winter sporting events is on thin ice.
Officials of the Great Rotary Ice Fishing Derby meet today to talk about whether to delay the ice fishing derby that’s scheduled for the weekend of February tenth.
Rick Ippolito, of the group’s chairmen, said the sponsors are worried about safety because of spotty ice on many lakes. He said that as of Tuesday, the derby was still on, but that they would make a final decision after meeting with Fish and Game.
The event draws thousands of anglers, is a major fundraiser for the Rotary club and a big boost for area businesses.
