On Jan. 18, I watched Gov. John Baldacci’s State of the State address. He is an excellent speaker. I am very impressed with all that he has done and plans to do for our state – helping businesses, education, research and development, preserve the environment, and much more. It was very obvious that the Republicans sat on their hands when Dirigo Health was mentioned. I think that they should put themselves in the place of someone who has a serious illness and no insurance, even worse, someone with a child that is very ill and has no insurance. The United States is the only industrialized country with no health insurance for millions of citizens. Baldacci is doing something to correct that; it is an example that other states and the federal government should follow.

It is very refreshing to listen to a politician who speaks to all citizens and recognizes the contributions that people from all parties and all areas of government are making.

He certainly should be re-elected.
