TURNER – A Dixfield man was in critical condition Thursday night after the sport utility vehicle he was driving flipped and rolled over on Route 4.

Police were reconstructing the crash scene in hopes of learning what caused 26-year-old Jason Holland to lose control of his Chevrolet near the intersection at Route 117.

The victim was thrown from his vehicle after crashing on a sharp incline known as Turner Village Hill at about 5:45 p.m.

Witnesses told police that Holland had been close behind another vehicle as he drove north along a two-lane section of Route 4.

When the lead vehicle slowed, Holland swerved to the right, struck snow and mud at the side of the road and flipped the vehicle, police said.

Maine State Police Trooper Nathan Jamo said the SUV rolled at least twice before coming to rest on its tires. Holland suffered internal injuries as well as head trauma, Jamo said.

A witness said the man appeared to be semiconscious as rescue workers loaded him into an ambulance.

He remained at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with his family late Thursday night where he was listed in critical condition.

Maine State Police blocked off part of Route 4 as rescue crews responded and an investigation got under way.

Three hours after the crash, southbound traffic was being rerouted around the site, while northbound traffic was directed through.
