FARMINGTON – Franklin County Sheriff Dennis C. Pike has promoted Deputy Sheriff Albert L. Smith to the rank of corporal in the Transport Division of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office effective as of Feb. 1.

Pike recognized Smith’s completion of 35 years of dedicated service to the residents of Franklin County and the state. His law enforcement career that began as a Wilton patrolman in 1970 and he transferred to Franklin County in 1975 as a dispatcher/corrections officer. He progressed to county patrol deputy in 1976 and accepted the position of Franklin County’s first-ever, full-time transport officer in 2002, Pike said.

In recent years, the county’s transportation obligations and duties have continued to increase, with many obligations over-lapping, he added.

Pike said, “Smith has willingly arranged directly with the onduty patrol/corrections supervisors and scheduled the necessary, additional personnel, including the use of part-time officers whenever possible.

“In addition, he has assumed the responsibilities of staying informed of the constantly changing schedules, keeping up to date on information concerning current professional service providers, including the judiciary and their immediate service/site locations,” Pike said. “Also, his willingness to work a flexible, non-standard work week, has been and continues to be, a valuable, economic asset to our county.”
