As a female, Kelly Godsey was one of the most accomplished athletes in Bates College history. Only 15 women have achieved All-America status by virtue of their finish at the NCAA track and field championship meet. Godsey and former teammate Liz Wanless are the only two ever crowned national champions.
Because indoor and outdoor shot put are regarded as two separate events, Godsey is an 11-time All-American in five different throwing disciplines.
Godsey’s All-America resume:
2003
Hammer throw (outdoor)
2004
20-pound weight throw (indoor)
Shot put (indoor)
Hammer throw (outdoor)
Shot put (outdoor)
Discus (outdoor)
2005
20-pound weight throw (indoor)

Hammer throw (outdoor)
Shot put (outdoor)
Discus (outdoor)
This year’s indoor national championship meet begins March 10. The outdoor championships are May 25.
