DIXFIELD – Colby Knapp poured in 11 points during a pivotal first-quarter run to send Dirigo to a 76-49 victory over Telstar in boys’ basketball Saturday.

The Cougars (13-3) utilized full-court pressure to shut down Telstar’s powerful offense. Sean Caddigan, the conference’s leading scorer, was limited to eight points in the first half when Dirigo jumped out to a 31-18 advantage. Caddigan finished with 24 points.

Knapp had six rebounds to go with his 19 points. Chris Richards added 12 points and six boards, while Josh Daley had seven assists and three steals.

Mt. Abram 50, Carrabec 48

NORTH ANSON – Jordan Norton sank a pair of free throws with three seconds to play to rally Mt. Abram to a 50-48 victory over Carrabec in boys’ basketball Saturday.

The Roadrunners carried a 37-33 lead into the final quarter, but the Cobras (2-14) surged to lead by as many as four points late in the quarter. But Mt. Abram fought back to tie the game before Norton was fouled in the lane driving to the hoop.

Norton scored a game-high 21 points and Tyson Chase chipped in with 14 points for Mt. Abram. Jake Goodwin scored 13 points and Brandon Coutts 10 for Carrabec.

Livermore Falls 68, Madison 47

LIVERMORE FALLS – Mike Durrell scored 17 points and hauled down 16 rebounds to to pace Livermore Falls to an easy 68-47 victory over Madison in boys’ basketball Saturday.

The Andies (8-8) raced out to a 20-10 advantage after one quarter, before extending it to 38-21 and 56-31 after the middle two frames.

Derrick Neal added 15 points and Zac Keene had 11 for the Andies. Lyle Castonguay grabbed 10 rebounds.

Gould 58, Seacoast 32

BETHEL – Junior guard Ian Siekman notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead Gould to a 58-32 win over Seacoast Christian in boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Huskies (6-7) applied the pressing game early and built a strong lead by the midpoint, 35-17. Junior guard Evan Bruens scored a team-high 16 points, while teammate sophomore center Jerry Kan contributed 12.

Sophomore guard Jordan Stinglen scored an impressive game-high 22 points for Seacoast Christian in the losing effort.

Buckfield 57, Rangeley 43

RANGELEY – Jamie Henderson pumped in 20 points to help Buckfield defeat Rangeley 57-43 in boys’ basketball Saturday.

Jeff Bennett added nine points and ripped down 16 rebounds, while Sean Ridge chipped in with 10 points for the Bucks (8-7). The Lakers (11-5) were led by David Jensen’s 14 points. Justin Gallant added 11.

Hockey

St. Dom’s 3, Thornton 2

BIDDEFORD – Freshman Richard Paradis tipped in a power-play goal at 2:58 of the third period to lift St. Dom’s to a 3-2 win over Thornton in a Class A hockey game at Biddeford Ice Arena Saturday.

Paradis’ second goal of the game came when Joe Theriault blasted a shot from the point. Paradis was able to deflect the shot into the net. Fellow frosh Ben Randall tied the game at 2-2 with a tally late in the second period. Brady Blackman stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced to pick up the victory for the Saints (8-5-1).

South Portland 5, G-NG/Poland 1

HEBRON – Tim Clark scored twice in the first period and assisted on a pair of others in the third as South Portland downed Gray-New Gloucester/Poland 5-1 in a boys’ hockey game at Robinson Arena.

Clark notched his first goal just 49 seconds into the game and added another at the 10:54 mark. Nick Griffin increased the lead to 3-0 for the Red Riots before Ryan Gilbert answered for the Patriotic Knights with assists going to Dylan Michaud and Cory Cormier.

Griffin and Brandon Martin put the game away with single tallies in the third period.

York 6, Leavitt 0

TURNER – Forward Andy Ohlson scored a pair of goals as York blanked Leavitt 6-0 in hockey action Saturday evening.

The Wilcats scored four unanswered goals in the first period to set the tone. Forward Kyle Banfield scored the opening goal and also had an assist in the game.

Goalie Richard Thibeault saw much action for the Hornets (11-5) as York shut them down with a superb defensive effort. Thibeault had 24 saves in the loss.
