In a letter to the editor on Feb. 3, letter writer Marianne Bouchard expressed her disappointment with Lewiston for not lowering its flags to half-staff in honor of Donald O’Leary Sr. In the letter, Bouchard said that Gov. John Baldacci ordered the U.S. and state flags to be lowered. She complained that Lewiston had not complied with that order, asking, “Who dropped the ball?”
The Sun Journal dropped the ball. The complaint against Lewiston city officials was unfair. The governor only ordered the flags in Mexico to be flown at half-staff. The order did not apply to Lewiston, Auburn or any other municipality in the state.
