This is a response to the letter from Albert Cyr Sr., printed Jan. 31. I would ask Cyr to read the Constitution and find where women have the right to vote or own property; and where slavery is disallowed. I would like him to read the Constitution, especially the parts that talk about privacy and the separation of church and state.

Than I would ask Cyr if he would take away a woman’s right to vote or own property; would deny her privacy rights; or would force her to adopt his religion and his beliefs?

Our Constitution was written by men; enlightened, certainly, for their time, but most of them owned slaves and believed that women were chattel.

The wisest thing they did was leave religion out of the document and allow people to act with their own conscience as a guide in personal matters.

Abortion was practiced, even then, and outlawing abortion will not stop it from happening. A law banning abortion would only drive the practice underground, kill more women and criminalize something that has been around since the first unwanted pregnancy.

So if we are to go back to the original intent of this wonderful document, what does he think his life will be like?
