I have been keeping track of the trial of Saddam Hussein, and I must say that it is quite comical. Here is a man on trial for the murders of hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of people, yet he manages to run the Iraqi courtroom like a three-ring circus.
How is the United States ever going to be able to hand over power to the Iraqis if they can’t even conduct a proper trial?
Iraqi court officials let Saddam refuse to come to court. That is so funny. I can imagine what would happen if someone in the United States, who was responsible for the murders of hundreds, refused to go to court. That just wouldn’t happen. And allowing the outburst of defiance in the court and then the defendant walking out? Give me a break.
Saddam’s lawyers keep asking for the trial to move outside of Iraq so he can be ensured a fair trial. They even suggested moving it to the United States. I think that is a great idea since, at this point, Iraqi court officials have proven that they can’t do this on their own.
