LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Tax Credit Awareness Coalition has announced that free tax preparation of federal and state returns will be provided from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on “Super Saturday,” Feb. 11, at Andover College, 475 Lisbon St.

The event is part of the community’s Earned Income Tax Credit “Take the Money; You’ve Earned It” campaign, advocated by the cities of Lewiston and Auburn, Lewiston-Auburn Tax Credit Awareness Coalition, Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

The Earned Income Tax Credit is a federal benefit to assist low and moderate income workers to increase their financial stability. Those eligible may receive up to a $4,400 tax credit in regard to a 2005 federal return.

At the Feb. 11 event, there will be IRS trained tax-prep volunteers on hand to prepare the federal/state returns.

Residents are encouraged to call 784-2951, ext. 109, to schedule an appointment; however, walk-ins will be accommodated as time permits.

In addition, a variety of asset-building information will be on hand to help residents concerning positive financial opportunities using refunds they may receive. Representatives will be on hand, including Coastal Enterprises Inc., with information about matching Individual Development Accounts.
