LEWISTON – A local man was treated Monday for a gash to his upper arm suffered in what he described as an attack during which he was beaten, robbed and stabbed.

Police went to Central Maine Medical Center just before 2 a.m. after they were alerted that a man was there with a stab wound. Investigators found 26-year-old Brian Chenard being treated for a deep, three-inch slash on the back of his right arm.

Chenard told police he had been walking at Bartlett and Walnut streets earlier in the night when he got into a confrontation with a group of people. Chenard told detectives he was stabbed and beaten unconscious. He also said his wallet was taken in the attack.

Police searched the downtown area for possible suspects but none was immediately found. Detectives were continuing their investigation Monday night.

Chenard was treated for his wound and later released.
