LEWISTON – With winter vacation approaching, King’s Bridge Theatre, Lewiston/Auburn’s newest live theater company, has a number of classes and workshops planned.

For kids, three daytime classes are scheduled for Monday to Friday, Feb. 20 to 24. Children ages 6 to 8 will find Imagination Station, a class that explores time-honored tales, then gives participants the opportunity to bring those tales to life onstage.

The Play’s the Thing is the place for students ages 9 to 11. From creating characters to learning improvisation techniques, overcoming stage fright and working in a team, young actors will begin to develop the skills they need to get started on the stage.

And a class designed specifically for ages 12 to 18 is Where’s the Script?: Improv Gone Wild!!! In the tradition of “Saturday Night Live” and “Whose Line is it Anyway?,” the course in comedy improvisation will be fast-paced, off-book and filled with challenging games.

All classes will be put through their paces as they perform before a live audience at the King’s Bridge Kids Performance Day on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Adults will have an opportunity to attend a six-week improvisation workshop. While Improvisation is designed to introduce the fundamentals of comedy improvisation, the workshop will also prove useful for public speakers, dramatic performers, teachers, singers – anyone who wants to learn techniques to help them think quickly on their feet.

Topics will include relaxation, listening, scene building, brainstorming, story telling, patterns, puns and punch lines.

Teaching the workshop will be King’s Bridge Theatre associate artist Duane Glover, “master impersonator” for Maine improv comedy troupe “Wingnuts.” Glover was most recently seen as Gaston in CLT’s production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” Improvisation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, March 6 to April 10.

King’s Bridge Theatre is located at 387 Lisbon St. Registration for all classes is under way. Class sizes are limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Open registration is available by phoning 577-6157 or attending open registration day at the theater from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11.
