AUBURN – It’s all downhill for Auburn’s rescheduled Winter Festival, which will take place this weekend with almost all its originally scheduled events.

Weather forecasters are predicting below-freezing temperatures, and organizers of the annual festival are gearing up for an all-Lost Valley venue for the annual event.

Last weekend’s rain and warm temperatures prompted organizers to postpone the festival. Usually staged at Lost Valley Ski Area and Central Maine Community College, all events will take place this weekend at Lost Valley, including snowshoe lessons and ice sculptures normally held at the college. Only the snowshoe races, the indoor carnival and the film festival will not take place.

The weather appears to be cooperating this time around.

“The good thing about the temperature range (forecast for next weekend) is that it meets the requirements at Lost Valley for snowmaking,” said Doug Beck, superintendent for the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department. “We are very optimistic.”

The three-day event starts on Friday and includes sleigh rides, races, a bonfire, barbecues, special ski rates, a mountain bike race, snowboarding demos, music and a parade.
