HANCOCK POINT – Virginia (Ginny) McClure Favor passed away at her daughter’s home in Hancock Point on Feb. 7.

She was born Jan. 1, 1920, in New York, N.Y., the daughter of Ruth (Branson) and Samuel McCrea. Ginny grew up in New York City and upon her graduation from high school went on to attend secretarial school. She married Charles McClure on June 17, 1940. Upon Charles’ untimely death, she was devoted to raising her two daughters, Beth and Barbara, in Norwalk, Conn.

She remarried in October 1968 to Henry Favor and they relocated to Henry’s native Norway in the early 1980s for their retirement. She was quite active with community affairs while living in Norway. She was a trustee of the Norway Memorial Library and a volunteer in the Women’s Auxiliary thrift shop at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She also served as a member of the Women’s Circle of the Second Congregational Church in Norway. She was a member of the Norway Country Club and was the treasurer of the Women’s Golf Association for many years. Golfing with friends was one of her favorite pleasures.

She was a strong, independent woman who taught her daughters the meaning of personal sacrifice and dignity and who touched the lives of her grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by all.

She is survived by her daughters, Beth and husband, David Shea, of Auburn and Barbara McClure and husband, Steven McLean, of Hancock Point; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her first husband, Charles, she was predeceased by her second husband, Henry; her sister, Helen McCrea O’Connell; and her brother, Samuel McCrea IV.
