This is in reference to a story, printed Feb. 3, titled “Part D paying for drugs not used.”
It is hard to believe that nursing homes would have to throw away all the unused, sealed medications just because of the new Medicare drug program. What a waste.
Why not give those unused medications to people who are earning low pay, using the poverty guideline, and cannot get help from the state? Some of those people cannot afford to buy any medical insurance or needed medications. With a doctor’s prescription, they could go to those nursing homes that had leftover medications, and get what they need.
Some of those people have high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems, just to name a few. They are the ones who need the help.
Why throw these medications away? Those medicines could be a great service to many people. Those people are U.S. citizens, why not help them out?
Let’s put those unused medications to good use instead of throwing them away.
