OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – A suspect in the shooting death of a Dartmouth student pleaded no contest Wednesday to being an accessory to murder, lawyers said.
Christopher Wilson Jr., 21, entered his plea in Alameda County Superior Court, and agreed to testify regarding the July 17 death of Meleia Willis-Starbuck, said prosecutor Carrie Panetta.
Willis-Starbuck, 19, was gunned down in Berkeley after getting into an argument with a group of University of California football players and calling Christopher Hollis, 22, for help, police said.
Hollis allegedly showed up with a gun. Hollis’ lawyers have said he meant to scare the football players by shooting over their heads, but instead accidentally shot Willis-Starbuck, a longtime friend. Wilson was driving the getaway car, Panetta said.
Hollis was charged with murder.
Wilson’s sentence will be decided by the judge if enough evidence is presented during the continuing preliminary hearing for the case to go to trial, Panetta said.
