SOUTH PARIS – Senior Captain Ben Ryerson lit up the boards with a career-high 29 points to give Oxford Hills the edge it needed over Leavitt, 61-55, in a boys’ basketball game Thursday.

Chris McVety added a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards for the Vikings (9-9). The Hornets (4-14) stepped up the pressure in the fourth quarter, outscoring Oxford Hills 23-17 thanks to Cam Angell downing three 3-pointers. Angell contributed 23 points for Leavitt.

Mtn. Valley 69, Mt. Abram 52

SALEM – Sophomore sensation Owen Jones poured in 16 points, leading a group of four players in double digits, as Mountain Valley finished off a perfect season with a 69-52 victory over Mt. Abram.

Byron Glaus chipped in for the Falcons (18-0) with 13 points, while Andy Shorey tallied 12 and D.J. Gerrish added 10. Mountain Valley held a 10-point advantage at the break, then outscored their opponent by seven in the second half to record the win.

Boothbay 65, Monmouth 49

BOOTHBAY – Pat Norton tallied a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds as Boothbay posted a 65-49 win over Monmouth in a boys’ MVC matchup Thursday.

The Seahawks (16-2) stepped up their defensive intensity in the third quarter to help solidify their win. Norton downed 11 of his 21 points in the third. Kris Noonan added 13 points to the win as well. The Mustangs (2-16) were led by Ben Seefeldt with 13 points.

Rangeley 73, GPC 28

RANGELEY – Justin Gallant drained an astounding 40 points, pulled down 17 rebounds and dished off 12 assists to lead Rangeley to a 73-28 romp over Greater Portland Christian in a season-finale basketball game Thursday.

David Jensen chipped in for the Lakers (12-6) with nine points, while Quinn Philbrick added six.

Greater Portland was paced by Dennis Cram with 13 points, while Jud Blake added nine. Rangeley jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter and was never seriously challenged.

Livermore Falls 71, Carrabec 41

NORTH ANSON – Davis Mercier tossed a game-high 22 points to lead Livermore Falls to a 71-41 win over Carrabec in MVC boys’ basketball action Thursday.

Junior center Mike Durrell and senior forward Lyle Castonguay also helped to guide the Andies with 16 and 12 points, respectiviely.

The Cobras cut a 34-22 halftime deficit in half with an 8-2 run in the opening minutes of the second stanza, but the Andies picked up the tempo to recoup and pull further ahead.

Junior guard Brandon Coutts nailed down nine field goals and three free throws for a tidy 21 points for Carrabec, while junior guard Nick Manzer pitched in with 10 points.

Dirigo 57, Jay 44

JAY – Spencer Berry tallied 13 points as Dirigo defeated Jay with a hard-fought 57-44 victory Thursday.

Freshman Thomas Knight added 12 points for the Cougars (15-3). Brad Loon of Jay (3-15) led all scorers with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Hockey

St. Dom’s 3, Portland 1

PORTLAND – Tom Gosselin and Alex Tyburski each tallied a goal and an assist a piece as St. Dom’s topped Portland with a 3-1 win in hockey action Thursday.

St. Dom’s (9-6-1) got on the board first with a goal by Tyler Martin before Gosselin and Tyburski tallied the insurance goals. Brady Blackman turned aside 21 shots to preserve the win.

The lone Portland (4-11) goal was a power-play shot netted by Craig Knight in the third period.
