FARMINGTON – A Eustis man pleaded guilty Friday to felony assault and misdemeanor theft and was given two six-month sentences, to run concurrent, in the county jail.
A robbery charge that Patrick Daggett, 35, initially faced was reduced to misdemeanor theft by unauthorized taking.
A state police trooper initially charged Daggett with robbery last year after Daggett was reported to have taken a 10-speed bicycle from a man on Dead River Road and allegedly threatened to use physical force to get the bike.
Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson said if the assault charge went to trial the victim would have testified that while the two were at Daggett’s apartment, Daggett struck the man several times.
Robinson also said alcohol was involved.
Daggett’s attorney Woody Hanstein said if the case went to trial his client would have testified that it was in self-defense, but he didn’t want to take the risk of a jury convicting him.
