Lewiston – Roger Clyde Barton, 70, graduated into the presence of the God he loved and served on Thursday, Feb. 9, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center with his loving family at his side.

He was born in Hodgdon, April 8, 1935, to Ralph E. and Blanche (Duff) Barton. He was married to Marjorie L. Carson on Dec. 10, 1958. They moved to Lewiston in 1961 and he began working at WCBB-Maine Public Broadcasting, completing 39 years there until his retirement in May 2000.

He was a member of South Lewiston Baptist Church for 45 years and served in many capacities including chairman of the Board of Elders and as a Sunday school teacher.

He was also a member of the building committee that oversaw the construction of the new church and was treasurer and caretaker of Clough Cemetery for 25 years.

Family life was very important to him as he was a wonderful and devoted family man who dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He was known as “Papa” to his grandchildren. He was an avid gardener, woodworker and a “jack-of-all-trades” or “Mr. Fix-it” who could fix anything.

He is survived by his beloved bride of 47 years, Marjorie Barton of Lewiston; four children, Kevin Barton and his wife, Beth, of Minot and their children, Ruth, Amanda and Samuel, Laurie Grumbach and her husband, Eric, of Lexington, S.C., and their children, Alecia, Sean, Bryan and Kristen, Debbie Witham and her husband, Dennis, of Monmouth and Timothy L. Barton and his wife, Susana, of Stoneham, Mass., and their children, Luis, Christie, Shona and Alejandro; two sisters, Grace Ellison and husband, Jim, of Greenville, S.C., and Jean Stewart and husband, David, of Raymond; and two brothers, Keith Barton and wife, Gerry, of Houlton and Lewis Barton and wife, Jan, of Merriam, Kan.

He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Frank and David.
