FARMINGTON – R. Eugenia “Genie” Hodgkins, 89, a resident of Sandy River Nursing Home since 1998, died Friday evening, Feb. 10, at Franklin Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side.

She was born Nov. 10, 1916, in Fayette, the daughter of Chester D. and Grace (Parsons) Davenport. Eugenia graduated from Kents Hill School in 1934 and continued her education in Boston.

On Feb. 24, 1937, in North Livermore, she married Wesley M. Hodgkins Sr. They made their home and raised their family in Fayette. He died Oct. 25, 1995.

She worked with her husband on their egg farm in Fayette. She also worked at Wilson’s 5 & 10 Store in Livermore Falls. She and her husband later owned and operated Central Firestone Tire in Livermore Falls.

She was a member of Starling Grange.

Eugenia was a published author of poetry and an avid reader. She enjoyed camping at their family camp on David Pond in Fayette, snowmobiling and socializing at Roy Polishes in Langetown, and also enjoyed bird watching immensely.

She is survived by a son, Wesley M. Hodgkins Jr. of Fayette; a daughter, Carol Millay of New Sharon; six grandchildren, Heather, Ryan and Abby Hodgkins, Leanne Condone, and Rebecca and Eric Mann; and five great-grandchildren.
