HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Richard Oliver Dufresne passed away on Jan. 26, at Memorial General Hospital in Hollywood, Fla., after a brief illness.

He was born on Dec. 4, 1934, in Auburn, to Oliver H. Dufresne and Zadie A. (Thomas) Dufresne. He attended Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1954.

He was in the service from 1954 to 1956.

As a young adult, he worked for H.P. Hood Dairy and then Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. He then co-owned and operated the Maine Insurance Agency before starting his own company, the Headlight Agency.

During his young and middle adult years, he was married and became a father of six children. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Purpoodock Golf Club for many years. While at Purpoodock, he served on the board of directors and was club champion in 1973.

He moved to Florida to pursue his love of horse racing and worked at two renowned race tracks there.

Predeceasing him were his mother, Zadie; his brother, Robert; and his father, Oliver.

He is survived by sister, Nancy Peterson, of Los Banos, Calif.; a brother, Ronald Dufresne of Yorba Linda, Calif.; son, James Dufresne of Portland, Ore.; daughters, Donna Dugal of Lincolnville, Ann Town of Yarmouth, Ruth Dufresne of Cape Elizabeth, Rachel Dufresne of Portland and Mary Sauschuck of Buxton.
