BEDFORD, N.H. (AP) – A hotel that has served as a home base for many campaigning presidents has undergone a $4 million renovation.
“Everybody I spoke to on my sales calls had some memory of the Wayfarer,” said Bill Scherer, a sales director at Jiten Hotel Management, which bought the property three years ago. “So, now our slogan is The Wayfarer the Way You Remember It.’ I really think this place is going to explode.”
The hotel, now called the Quality Inn and Wayfarer Conference Center, was built on the historic site of John Goffe’s Mill, after whom Goffstown is named. The waterfalls that powered his mill in 1774 can be seen from the balconies of suites or from the hotel’s restored covered bridge, which was recently enclosed and outfitted with period woodwork, lanterns, and windows.
Other upgrades included the pool and fitness center, landscaping around the waterfalls, and the creation of a business center. Each room also has high-speed wireless Internet.
The hotel also signed on a dueling piano act and a new head chef.
It has served as a home base for every campaigning president since John F. Kennedy and is the site of CBS News headquarters during the New Hampshire Primary.
