NEW GLOUCESTER – The third and final public session on the town’s Economic Development Plan will begin at 7 p.m. today at the Pineland Conference Center.

The sessions that began in December will help the town shape a clear vision for how New Gloucester will grow and develop in the next decade.

The session with round-table work groups will highlight Pineland, tourism, agritourism/arts, housing and rural area issues. The public’s comments will provide a framework for consultants RKG Associates of Durham, N.H., and David Versel of Biddeford.

A survey recently completed by area business establishments asks about the future needs to sustain economic viability.

New Gloucester is a fast-growing rural town, which has seen 240 residential subdivisions approved since the mid-1970s.

The town relies on individual wells and private septic systems to serve more than 5,000 residents. That growth, along with the redevelopment of the 3,000-acre Pineland business and agricultural center, has placed demands on the town’s structures and services.
