PORTLAND – PCA Great Performances will present violinist Joshua Bell with pianist Jeremy Denk at Merrill Auditorium on March 7 at 7:30 p.m.
This special concert is a benefit for the PCA Great Performances Endowment. The performance will be a reprise of the pair’s Feb. 22 performance at Carnegie Hall.
The evening’s program will feature Mozart’s Sonata No. 2 for Violin and Piano in G Major, Beethoven’s Sonata No. 9 for Violin and Piano in A Major, Bartók’s Rhapsody No. 1 for Violin and Piano, Prokofiev’s Five Melodies for Violin and Piano and Ysae’s Caprice d’après l’étude en forme de valse de Saint-Saëns.
Bell, a Grammy Award-winner, has been captivating audiences around the globe for more than 20 years. He came to national attention at age 14 with his orchestral debut with Riccardo Muti and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Now in his 30s, Bell has performed with the world’s leading symphony orchestras and conductors, recorded 27 albums and earned acclaim as a classical music superstar.
Denk has gradually established a reputation as one of today’s most compelling young artists. He made his New York City recital debut at Alice Tully Hall in April 1997, as winner of the Juilliard Piano Debut Award. A double degree (chemistry and piano) graduate of Oberlin College and Conservatory in Ohio, he has tried to merge interests in literature and science with his performing career, and to create intellectually challenging and entertaining programs.
