TURNER – The winter-spring session of SAD 52 adult education classes will continue with a three-week Coyne Adult, Child, Infant CPR and First Aid course beginning Monday, Feb. 27.

It will give students the knowledge and skills to provide care to victims of breathing or cardiac emergencies and sudden illnesses, such as diabetic emergencies. Students will be able to control bleeding, care for burns and head, neck and back injuries. At the end of the class, participants will receive a one-year certificate in CPR and a three-year certification in first aid.

The Leavitt Area High School weight room will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights beginning Feb. 27 for people interested in a regular exercise routine. There are a number of machines for use and the room is monitored by a member of the adult education staff.

For youngsters ages 5 and up there will be a tumbling class taught by a USA Gymnastics safety-certified instructor who relates well with students of all ages. Children will enhance their coordination, strength, balance and flexibility while improving and refining tumbling skills. The eight-session class will starts March 6 in Greene and March 2 in Turner.

Basic welding will teach the fundamentals of arc welding and safety procedures. Student in the eight-week course, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 28, will also be instructed in proper welding supplies and equipment. Safety glasses must be worn and supplied by each student.

For a high-energy dance class, sign up for beginner hip-hop dance beginning Feb. 28 for six weeks. For a slightly faster pace and more advanced choreography, there’s intermediate hip-hop.

Also beginning Feb. 28, there will be a 10-week quilt addiction class. The focus will be a nine-patch quilt made from scraps or a planned version.

An eight-week personal finance management class will start Feb. 28. It is for people with a desire to plan and control home finances through assessment, goal setting and strategic discipline. Small engine repair, a 10-week class, will begin Wednesday, March 1

A five-week beginning computer class will start March 1. Learn basic computer skills using Windows along with instruction on the Internet and word processing. Another offering, Microsoft Office 2000 covering Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint with an overview of Windows, is an eight-week class that will begin Thursday, March 2.

Participants will learn to shuttle tat from an international award winning tatter in a five-week class that will begin March 1. All the basics will be taught.

A seven-week baby-sitter training class will start Monday, March 6. American Red Cross infant and child CPR will also be taught.

A new offering, beginner art, will start Wednesday, March 8, for six weeks. Participants will work with paint and pastels. For six weeks, starting March 15, those wishing will learn to weave new baskets in the intermediate basket weaving class.

On Monday, March 20, a class will create a pocket of dried flowers that will enhance a small wall space or doorway. Everything is provided. Participants can learn ballroom and Latin dancing beginning Monday, April 3. Both are eight-week sessions.

An introductory yoga course will start Thursday, March 23, for seven weeks and teach the basics of Ashtanga, a practice developed in India. The class is open to all levels.

Beginner dog obedience will commence March 23 for six weeks. Correction of behavior problems will be offered.
