SOUTH PORTLAND – PCA Great Performances will present the Kennedy Center’s national touring production of “Willy Wonka” Sunday, March 5, as part of its new family series.

The shows will be at 2 and 4 p.m. in the South Portland High School Auditorium.

Featuring live actors, puppets and surprises, this hourlong stage musical is adapted from Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

It features music and lyrics from the 1971 film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” including “The Candy Man,” “Pure Imagination” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket.”

The production, suitable for children ages 5 and older, features four greedy children and the secrets of a scrumptious chocolate factory.

Willy Wonka, the world’s greatest candy maker, has kept the wonders of his chocolate factory a secret but, after a lifetime of making unbelievable candies and sweets, Wonka is finally ready to retire. But that’s only after he finds the perfect person to take his place.

After a frantic search for the five hidden golden tickets in special Wonka bars, a sweet-natured boy named Charlie Bucket and four other golden ticket winners get to tour the fantastical factory. There, Willy Wonka and his band of Oompa Loompas lead Charlie and the other four through a labyrinth of lemon drops and life lessons.

Tickets are $10 and are available through PortTix, (207) 842-0800. People also can order tickets online and learn more about the show at www.pcaGreatPerform-ances.org.

Included on the Web site is a “Cue Sheet” link designed to help people enjoy the show, with questions and activities for students and families.
