CONWAY, N.H. (AP) – An ice-climber from Maine was critically injured after a fall from Cathedral Ledge.

The accident occurred about 9 a.m. Sunday when Scott Triolo, 25, of Bangor, Maine, and a partner were belaying down the Thresher Route, said Fish and Game Lt. Todd Bogardus.

Triolo apparently was pausing at a ledge break area and was not connected to any safety devices when he fell about 50 feet to the bottom, onto hard-packed rock and ice, Bogardus said. He suffered multiple injuries.

Triolo was carried out by North Conway Fire and Rescue and Mountain Rescue Service and taken to Memorial Hospital. From there, he was transferred by helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was listed in critical condition Sunday afternoon.
