AUBURN – Jeannette R. Leighton, 80, of 550 College St., Lewiston, died Thursday evening at the Hospice House.

Born in Portland to Fred and Lydia LeGrow Robinson, Jeannette attended Cumberland schools and graduated from Greeley Institute in 1944.

She married John E. Leighton on Nov. 10, 1945.

Jeannette worked off and on for H.P. Hood & Sons. She attended East Auburn Baptist Church and had many hobbies, including knitting, reading, playing cards, crocheting, beading and playing both the piano and organ. She claimed that for 70 years of her life she couldn’t count on two hands the number of days she didn’t do some knitting or crocheting. She also spent time working crossword puzzles, watching “The O’Reilly Factor,” and following the political scene, and she loved going for a ride anywhere.

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Leighton of Auburn; son, John Leighton, and his wife, Darla, of North Attleboro, Mass.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sybil Robinson of Massachusetts; a brother, George Robinson of Portland; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Joyce Leighton, in 1995; a brother, Gene Robinson; and a sister, Fanny Leighton.
