LEWISTON – Sarah Peters, chairwoman of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council, accepted a Mayoral Commendation on behalf of the group from Mayor Lionel C. Guay at the Feb. 7 Lewiston City Council meeting.
Guay praised the youth council for recently placing as a top-six finalist in this year’s “organization category” for a national 2006 Harris Wofford Award bestowed annually by Youth Service America.
The organization category in which the youth council placed focused on local, state and national nonprofit organizations, foundations and corporations with a demonstrated record of activity and impact devoted to youth service, youth voice, service learning or civic engagement.
Sen. Peggy Rotundo was on hand and offered words of praise for the youth council’s efforts, noting that she’s a “cheerleader” of all they do. Councilor Norm Rousseau, city council liaison to the group, also commended the group for its community contributions.
