RUMFORD – PROJECT NOW of the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition and the Spring Fitness Program Committee are thinking spring. They are finalizing the Spring Fitness Program, an eight-week self-tracking program that encourages individuals to exercise 30 to 45 minutes three to five days a week.

Participants must register by March 5 and pick a category. Then they track their minutes of activity on sheets provided and turn them in at the end of the eight weeks to be eligible to win prizes.

Some of this years’ prizes are gift certificates from various business, gift baskets and free memberships to local area facilities. Grand prizes are $100 gift card to Olympia Sports and a summer seasons pass to Big Adventure.

The committee is comprised of several individuals from the community as well as representatives from various organizations. They have planned some special events that will earn bonus minutes toward the final total.

Some of the activities are rock climbing at Big Adventure, free on March 23 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and roller-skating at the Mexico Rec Center, free on April 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. Other events are still being planned.

Registration forms, tracking sheets and directions on how the program works can be picked up at participating organizations and from Spring Fitness Committee members.
