FARMINGTON – A man tried to steal the drug oxycodone from the Rite Aid on Wilton Road on Sunday afternoon, said Farmington detective Mark Bowering on Monday.

Clad in brown slippers, a hooded sweatshirt and a New York baseball cap, the man approached a pharmacist around 1 p.m. and “told her to give him all her oxycodone,” Bowering said. Oxycodone is a generic name for the potent narcotic painkiller OxyContin. Bowering said the man demanded the drugs a second time, but gave up when the pharmacist refused and told him, “You’d better leave.”

Then the would-be robber turned, left the store and drove off in a silver or gray four-door car, Bowering added.

“We have somewhat of a description” of the man, he said, “but he had something covering his face.” Even so, police have “some leads that we’re following down.”

Bowering asked that anyone who has seen someone fitting the man’s description call the Farmington Police Department, 778-6311. There is a possibility the would-be robber will try again, he said, probably in a different pharmacy.

Rite Aid employees were unavailable for comment Monday.
