JAY – Police are investigating a break-in at Paris Farmers Union on Main Street that they believe happened late Saturday or early Sunday.

Entry was forced, Jay police Detective Roderick Small said Tuesday.

A safe in the building was targeted, and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken, he said.

Evidence found at the scene will be sent to the state crime lab for analysis, Small said.

Police from four agencies are still trying to solve five other burglaries that have occurred since late December.

Town offices at New Sharon and Fayette were broken into in December. A safe containing about $400 was taken from New Sharon, along with some town papers. About $10 in change was taken from Fayette, along with a digital recording machine.

The Fayette Town Office was hit again in late January; officials said town checks, a Dell computer and a digital camera were taken. An attempt to get into the safe was unsuccessful.

During that same weekend, businesses in New Sharon and Wilton were burglarized.

An undisclosed amount of cash and a couple of power tools were stolen and cash registers were damaged at the Top of the Hill Grill in New Sharon.

Money and some miscellaneous items were also taken from Athena’s restaurant in Wilton.

No one has been charged in the cases.
