AUBURN – Richard J. (Rick) Vail has been appointed Mechanics Savings Bank’s president and chief executive officer.

Vail has 28 years of experience in the financial services industry. From 2004 to 2006, he served as senior commercial loan officer at Gorham Savings Bank, from 2001 to 2004 he was a financial consultant for A.G. Edwards & Sons, and from 1986 until 2000, Vail was executive vice president of commercial services at Peoples Heritage Bank.

He has served in various volunteer capacities for Southern Maine based nonprofits including Youth Alternatives, United Way of Greater Portland, Maine Medical Center, Mercy Hospital and PCA Great Performances.

Vail has a mathematics degree from the University of Southern Maine. He and his wife, Phyllis, live in South Portland.
