NORWAY – The Norway-Paris Fish and Game Association is holding its annual ice fishing derby Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25 and 26, from sunup to sundown.
Registration and weigh-in are at the Little Red Schoolhouse on Norway Lake off Route 118.
Refreshments will be for sale throughout the derby, as well as tickets for door prizes and a gun raffle.
Tickets may be purchased at most Norway and South Paris sporting goods shops, from club members or, on the day of the derby, at the Little Red Schoolhouse.
Tickets must be purchased first. All lakes and ponds in the state of Maine are eligible fishing spots for this derby, though fish must be weighed in at the Little Red Schoolhouse the same day they are caught.
Children under age 12 may vie for Junior Division awards without buying a ticket. Junior anglers who submit a fish are rewarded with a small prize.
A $50 first prize will be awarded for the largest fish in each of six categories: brook trout/splake, salmon, brown trout, pickerel, lake trout (togue), and bass.
Proceeds help send area youths to the Maine Conservation School in Bryant Pond.
