LAKE SUNAPEE, N.H. – Wayne A. Fortier, 67, of Wellesley, Mass., and Belgrade Lakes, died suddenly in an iceboating accident on Sunday, Feb. 19.

He was born in Waterville, on May 7, 1938, the oldest of seven children of Yvette (Bolduc) Fortier and the late Malcolm J. Fortier. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1956.

After working at Pratt & Whitney in the apprentice program, he held several sales positions before starting his own businesses. At the time of his death, he was the owner and CEO of New England Waterproofing and Crack-X of Natick, Mass.

He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying iceboating, fishing and snowmobiling with family and friends. He traveled from the Kennebec River to the Chesapeake Bay in search of striped bass as well as fishing in numerous lakes all over New England.

A skilled craftsman, he was the designer and inventor of many projects, and no matter how large or small the endeavor, he always took the time to get it right.

He is survived by his mother, Yvette; his children, Stephanie Fortier Mouse and husband, Stephen, Steven Fortier, Tina Fortier Chu, Christopher Fortier, Thomas Fortier; eight grandchildren; his five brothers and sisters, Donna Urbach and husband, Herbert, Renee Jabar and husband, Joseph, John Fortier and wife, Lisa, Linda Allen and husband, Carl, David Fortier; and 15 nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, he was predeceased by his wife, Jocelyne Allard; and his brother, Pierre.
