MILFORD, Conn. (AP) – An employee of a marble and granite company died Wednesday when six or seven granite slabs weighing about 1,000 pounds apiece fell on him, local fire officials said.
William Martino Jr., 42, of West Haven was crushed shortly after 2 p.m. at Marble and Granite Inc.’s regional distribution center on Old Gate Lane, authorities said.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Milford officials were investigating.
A similar incident occurred in May 2005 in Middletown. In that case, a Newington man died after he was pinned by more than two tons of granite slabs that slipped as they were being moved at a home design center.
