DURHAM, N.H. (AP) – Fire officials plan to use this week’s sorority house fire at the University of New Hampshire to teach a safety lesson.

The fire injured three students and damaged the Chi Omega sorority house Wednesday night. Fire investigators believe it was started by an unattended candle.

Town Fire Marshal Mark Tetreault said he hopes officials can turn the fire into something positive by spreading the word about the dangers of leaving candles unattended. He said candles have started three fires at the school in the last two years.
