The buzz saw that is the Drummonville Voltigeurs claimed the Lewiston Maineiacs as their 12th victim Friday night.

Derick Brassard scored twice and Pierre-Alexandre Marion made 36 saves to lead the Volts to their franchise-record 12th consecutive win, a 5-1 victory over the Maineiacs in front of 2,855 at Centre Marcel Dionne.

Jonathan Bernier saw his first action in a week, and allowed five goals on 40 shots.

The loss keeps Lewiston at 68 points, fourth in the Eastern Conference, but the Maineiacs lost some ground to Halifax.

The Mooseheads won their game Friday and are now four points back of the Maineiacs for the fourth position and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Brassard notched his first goal of the game and 40th of the season 10:04 into the first period to put Drummondville ahead 1-0.

The Voltigeurs dominated the latter half of the first period as well, burying Bernier with 12 shots in the final 11 minutes. The Maineiacs’ netminder held tough, though, and the team escaped down only by a goal.

The Voltigeurs doubled their lead at 2:45 of the second period when Guillaume Latendresse poked the puck past Bernier at even-strength.

Lewiston responded on a two-man power play less than six minutes later with Marc-Andre Cliche getting his 30th of the year, but Drummonville added another power-play goal at 12:51.

Though not officially a power-play goal, Frederick St. Denis notched No. 15 on the season at 10:48 of the third, one second after a penalty to Jakub Bundil expired to put the Voltigeurs ahead 4-1, sealing the team’s record-setting win. Brassard added his second of the game short-handed at 15:49 of the final frame.

Lewiston has today off and will face P.E.I. on Sunday at the Colisee.
