This is in regard to the Catholic churches in the Lewiston-Auburn area. Those churches are very active and strong, but need to consolidate to survive financially. We can still worship in our own town, and our bishop is working hard with priests and others to make the right choices for all. We have been spoiled through the years with our many choices for times and places of worship.
We must accept each challenge, one at a time, and trust in God’s plan that the church will survive.
There is much evangelism going on in the churches, with Masses, Bible study, youth ministry, faith sharing, reconciliation and more. There is Eucharistic Adoration, with the real presence of Jesus, where group prayer continues, during set times. More and more people are taking that seriously. Prayers are being said for special needs, here and away. These have all been very rewarding.
Catholics need to join together in faith, asking God to provide more priests and religious leaders who continuously sacrifice for us through their commitment.
If anyone wonders why the faithful attend church on a daily basis, it is because when we receive the holy Eucharist, we are nourished and strengthened and given authority to help our brothers and sisters. We are also sharing in Jesus’ work through his grace.
