AUBURN – Richard N. Bryant, 92, a resident of Main Street, Livermore Falls and formerly of Riley, died Saturday morning, Feb. 25, at the Hospice House in Auburn, surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 11, 1913, in Canton, the son of Ernest and Myrtle (Harlow) Bryant. He was a graduate of Jay High School, where he was a member of the state champion basketball team.
On Nov. 20, 1933, he married Hedvicka “Hattie” Slovak at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. Hattie passed away on March 13, 1987.
Richard worked for International Paper Co. in Jay as a millwright, retiring in 1977 after 45 years of service.
He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, where he was also a Cursillista; a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 320 of Jay, and a member of the Quarter Century Club of International Paper Co. He was proud to be a volunteer at Otis Federal Credit Union for more than 50 years, having served as vice president of the board of directors and most recently as an honorary officer.
He was also a charter member of the Maine Rovers and a volunteer for the Tri-Town Ministerial Food Cupboard and for the Knights of Columbus Beano.
He is survived by two sons, Richard Bryant and his wife, Jeannette, of Mexico, and Raymond Bryant and his wife, Aline, of Jay; three daughters, Linda Ouellette and her husband, Rosario, of Jay, Nancy Blodgett and her husband, Stephen, of Livermore Falls, and Janice Woods and her husband, Jerry, of Henderson, Nev.; a brother, Norman Bryant and his wife, Natalie, of Jay; 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a grandchild, Alan Bryant; a sister, Ethelyn Brackett; and three brothers, Erlon, Ronald, and Linwood Bryant.
